Frequently Asked Questions

What is Watwet?

Watwet is a social messaging service that makes sharing your latest status, whereabouts, news, rants and ramblings with your friends, family and colleagues something really fun and easy to do.

We make this happen so nicely because the messages that get swapped between your group of friends are generally no more than 140 characters in length. This allow us to be creative about how these messages are posted and delivered, and makes it easy for everyone to play around them!

How does it work?

The way it works is really easy. Once you have signed up, you can start posting messages and those messages reach your group of friends on Watwet. This is no big deal until you know that you can do the following with Watwet!

  • Post your messages by SMS: This allows you to use Watwet from anywhere and at anytime. You can be stuck in traffic jam, but still rant about it by posting by SMS. All this at no extra charge. You just pay your normal mobile operator charges for SMS.
  • Receive what your group of friends post by SMS: You can also receive what your friends are posting on your mobile by SMS! This will make traffic jams much more fun!
  • The 140 characters rule: Having to express yourself in 140 characters is so much fun. This makes Watwet instant and spontanous, and more importantly, something that everyone of us is naturally born capable to do!

How do I get started?

You need to signup first. Go to http://watwet.com/signup. Once you have signed up, which takes 2 minutes, you can immediately start sending messages on Watwet.

It will feel a bit lonely at the beginning because you do not have your friends added on Watwet. The best thing to do is to search for your friends on Watwet, and if you do not find them, invite them to join Watwet. Once you have formed your group of friends on Watwet, it will get super addictive.

Just imagine those rants from friends who are in boring meetings or lectures, waiting in a queue or in a taxi. You will know so much about your friends, it's just so much fun.

What is the difference between a "watwet" and a "washwish"?

Watwets are messages that all your friends can see. Washwishes are messages that can be seen by specific friends you select.

Your friends will be able to see your watwets and washwishes on the web, by SMS and e-mail (if they choose to receive watwets and washwishes by SMS and e-mail).

Watwet in Arabic (especially in the Levant region of the Middle East) means to talk fast and spontanously. Washwish means to whisper in Arabic. Check out Watwet Lingo to learn more.

Do I pay anything to post or receive watwets and washwishes by SMS?
